Brook (right) and a friend

On March 3rd, Brook went to the doctor because she had a sore throat. She was diagnosed with strep throat. She was given a shot of arythrameyacin and sent home.

The symptoms went away and on March 8th, she fell on her right leg and was bruised very badly. March 10th, Brook tripped on the stairs and she thought she sprained her ankle the pain was intense. She went to the emergency room was x-rayed and diagnosed with a severe sprain. She was given a shot of Demerol and a prescription for Vicadan.

Brook was very uncomfortable and finally got the pain under control on the 11th. She was very tired but complained of nothing but excess thirst and still some pain in her ankle. March 13th, I was feeding her and saw a sore on her upper lip and asked what it was and she said nothing. I fed her she said she felt better and the swelling was down in her ankle and she said "I'm finally getting better mom..............thanks for taking such good care of me".

March 13th 1:45 a.m. I was in bed and heard 2 faint "Moms"............I went down stairs and she was lying with her eyes closed and said "call 911". I said "Brook wake up, you're dreaming" and she said it again and I knew something was wrong and called.

I started CPR on Brook because she wasn't breathing, the paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead at 2:08. They thought she she had lost a blood clot from her ankle. The autopsy showed no blood clot, they took tissue samples and when they came back said she died of Strep and it deteriorated her heart.

If I had known then what I know now, she might be alive. I had no idea this could happen, and I guess they don't in the emergency room either.. People say "you don't die from Strep". But I'm sorry...............yes you can.
