| March 5, 1950 - October 23, 2009 |
| My husband died on October 23, 2009 in Toronto, Canada of this terrible disease. We had just returned to Toronto from a vacation in Indian Shores, Florida on Wednesday October 21. We got our cases emptied and laundry sorted. During the night my husband was uncomfortable and kept getting in and out of bed. By Thursday morning he was complaining about pain in his legs and his legs were pretty swollen – we thought it was due to flying the day before. He ended up going to emergency hospital at 8:15 am on Thursday morning – by 5pm he was in surgery. The doctors suspected NF but after 2 hours in surgery they thought that it was an infection as they could not see any sign of NF…. He was rushed to surgery again at 5am on Friday October 23 and at that time we were informed that indeed it was NF and that it had spread very rapidly … he was in an induced coma at that time but he was going downhill very quickly they did suggest amputating both his legs – but at that point we realized that he was so ill and wouldn’t survive. He died on Friday 23 October at 2:35 pm. I am so glad that we did not go through with the double amputation – he just wasn’t meant to survive this terrible disease. So this dedication is in memory of my husband James Patrick McAllister – born in Belfast, Ireland on March 5, 1950 died in Toronto on October 23, 2009. We miss you dearly – wife Frances, children, Jason, Stephen and Kevina….we love you. |
