| At
the age of 56, my father was diagnosed with NF. He had received a 1/2
inch cut on his leg from his car door. The last conversation he heard
was that they were going to operate and remove his leg.
While under the anesthetic and paralytic, he suffered a stroke that
destroyed the left side of his brain. We were left with the toughest,
yet easiest decision, to remove him from life support. The hospital
stay lasted about a week and a half, but he lasted only 7 minutes without
the assistance of machines.
I am the oldest of 2 sons. We lost the greatest father, best friend, and teacher that anyone could ever ask for. After a few weeks, I was told that things would get easier. However, the reality is just starting to settle in (no more funny e-mails or phone calls to "check in"). The worst part is that he will never see his first grandson. In my father's honor, my son's name is Ethan Jay Kent.... |
